IVU Joins ITxPT as a Principal Member

Berlin-based IT Specialist broadens commitment to the standardisation of IT systems for public passenger transportation. IVU hopes to champion the introduction of international standards alongside other industry representatives.

IVU was previously involved in developing the IT-based standard IBIS-IP for a digital, integrated on-board information system starting in 2010 under the auspices of the VDV, with the aim of phasing out the existing, mostly proprietary IP solutions of different manufacturers. In view of the considerable similarity between IBIS-IP and ITxPT, IVU now intends to push for a merging of the two standards.

By codifying communication protocols and hardware interfaces in depth, the ITxPT standard makes differing IT systems fully compatible, thereby reducing the degree of risk encountered in the tendering, project planning and implementation of IT solutions for public transport. Moreover, Members of the ITxPT Association share experiences and best practices in various Working Groups and work together on a standardization strategy.

“As a Member of ITxPT, we hope to bring to the table the years of experience we have acquired in the development and implementation of IBIS-IP,” explains Torsten Franke, Product Manager at IVU. “Our primary objective is to press ahead with the introduction of unified international standards for IT systems in public transport vehicles.”

IVU Traffic Technologies AG has been working for over 40 years with more than 400 engineers to ensure punctual and reliable transport in the world’s metropolises. In growing cities, people and vehicles are constantly on the move – a logistical challenge that calls for intelligent and secure software systems. The integrated standard products of the IVU.suite work to plan, optimize and control the deployment of buses and trains, provide passengers with real-time information, create routes for parcel delivery services, and support businesses in choosing branch locations.
