Within the European Bus System of the Future 2 project (EBSF_2), ITxPT collaborates with UITP, Transport for London (TfL) and other partners to test a standardised on-board IT system for all buses. On 19 September 2017 a demonstration event of EBSF_2 took place in London, gathering more than 100 Public Transport stakeholders to experience first-hand introduction of a standardized system in an existing bus fleet.
TfL is a strategic Member of ITxPT and in the past years it has worked together with EBSF_2 partners to test and implement the interoperability of IT systems on its bus fleet. By using open-standards, the long-term goal is to reduce the complexity of on-board systems, increase efficiency, reduce weight and energy consumption, as well as to cut operational costs. In the future, it could resulted in a standardized IT architecture across the whole London bus fleet. This implementation opens the way to adoption of ITxPT standards in the UK and Europe wide, providing:
- an easier way for multiple suppliers to work together to provide a complete solution,
- the ability to multi-source components,
- potentially cutting costs and increasing efficiency.
