ITxPT releases Ticketing Validation Counting specifications
Released on 10 June 2026, the ITxPT S04P07N01-Validation Counting v1.0.0 is a new specification within the S04 series covering ticketing domain. The specification introduces a common interface for collecting and reporting ticketing validation events across public transport systems.
Why it matters
Ticketing validation counting is a key performance indicator for transport operations and contracts. The main challenge is to provide a hardware-independent solution for collecting and sharing ticketing validation data, enabling integration with diverse back-end systems and promoting interoperability across ticketing validation devices. This challenge was also raised during Members Meeting 2025, in Paris.
Part of a broader roadmap
This release marks a step in ITxPT’s wider Ticketing interface standardisation effort. Driven by requirements from the ITxPT Requirements Committee, Validation Counting is one of the first building blocks, with further ticketing specification sections planned to progressively cover the full set of requirements.
What’s next
All ticketing-related specifications are built on functional requirements from RWG06 (Requirements Committee working group). Additional S04P07 sections are expected to follow, complementing this first release.
What the specification does
The specifications accumulates and reports data relating to the ticketing validation of access rights, present on travel documents providing a single, standardized interface that can capture and report ticketing validation attempts regardless of the technology or method used.
Technical foundation
Built on Transmodel concepts, the specification follows a logging-based design pattern, focusing on the consistent recording and reporting of ticketing validation events. By enabling harmonized data collection and analysis, it supports improved operational visibility, better data quality, and enhanced interoperability across ticketing ecosystems.
