Finnish Public Transport Association – Partner Association
The Finnish Public Transport Assocation is a co-operation organisation for public transport authorities and within the industry. The association was founded in 1970. Their task is to influence important issues concerning public transport by spreading public transport “know how’s” and increasing knowledge. They regularly arrange conferences and meetings on current issues. Their members are 13 finnish Public Transport Authorities; Helsinki Regional Transport Authority (HSL), Meri-Lappi, cities of Hämeenlinna, Joensuu, Jyväskylä, Kuopio, Lahti, Lappeenranta, Oulu, Pori, Salo, Tampere and Turku. Public transport organized by our members served people on 492 million trips on 2018 which is over 80 % of public transport trips on road in Finland.
The Finnish Public Transport Assocation joined ITxPT to support the deployment of open IT architecture and to find a way to enable interoperability between public transport IT systems. They want to learn how the deployment and practises recommended by ITxPT could help their members to enable easier development of interoperable information and ticketing system solutions and devices. It is for instance very common in Finland to work on having ID based ticketing systems and to have a better process and structure for installing devices to vehicles. In other words, the association is looking forward to a Plug-and-Play type of future.
